The way
the orbits of Mars and Earth work out, Mars makes a close
approach to Earth about every 26 months.
Some approaches are
closer than others. The next few close approaches will occur in Jan-2010,
Mar-2012, Apr-2014, May 2016, and July 2018.
The closest will be the one
in 2018, which will be almost as close as the one that
occured in 2003, a record setting year.
